Early Velazquez paintings were religious themed. However, they became renowned for their realistic and complex portraits. In later years, Velazquez paintings became famous for a Pope Innocent X portrait and for Las Meninas.
Velazquez paintings were also influenced by the naturalism of Italian painter Caravaggio. Among the notable Velazquez works was The Triumph of Bacchus, where a group of revelers falls under the powerful spell of the Greek god of wine.
